Se cantan, se olvidan a medias, se recomponen y vuelven a circular. Y pocas explican mejor este proceso \u2014conocido como <em data-start=\"338\" data-end=\"358\">recreaci\u00f3n comunal<\/em>\u2014 que el romance de <strong data-start=\"378\" data-end=\"419\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">El se\u00f1or don Gato<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"422\" data-end=\"733\">La historia es simple y, precisamente por eso, resistente: un gato recibe noticias de boda, se entusiasma, sufre una ca\u00edda aparatosa y acaba muerto, resucitado\u2026 o ambas cosas, seg\u00fan la versi\u00f3n. A partir de ah\u00ed, la comunidad hace lo que siempre ha hecho con sus relatos cantados: <strong data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"732\">variarlos sin pedir permiso<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"735\" data-end=\"1325\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 cambia entre versiones? Pues lo que cambia en cualquier conversaci\u00f3n de bar: el detalle. El gato puede estar \u201csentadito en su tejado\u201d o sentado en \u201csilla de oro\u201d; la gata puede ser blanca, negra, parda o montesa; y el parentesco se vuelve un \u00e1rbol geneal\u00f3gico digno de sobremesa televisiva: hija, sobrina o vecina de otro gato. Basta comparar estrofas reales para verlo claro. En unas versiones se canta:<br data-start=\"1144\" data-end=\"1147\" \/><em data-start=\"1147\" data-end=\"1202\">\u00abEstaba el se\u00f1or don Gato,<br data-start=\"1174\" data-end=\"1177\" \/>sentadito en su tejado\u2026\u00bb<\/em><br data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1205\" \/>mientras que en otras el arranque sube de categor\u00eda social:<br data-start=\"1264\" data-end=\"1267\" \/><em data-start=\"1267\" data-end=\"1325\">\u00abEstando el se\u00f1or don Gato<br data-start=\"1294\" data-end=\"1297\" \/>sentadito en silla de oro\u2026\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1327\" data-end=\"1618\">La prometida tampoco se queda atr\u00e1s. Puede ser<br data-start=\"1373\" data-end=\"1376\" \/><em data-start=\"1376\" data-end=\"1423\">\u00abuna gatita negra,<br data-start=\"1395\" data-end=\"1398\" \/>vecina de un gato pardo\u00bb<\/em><br data-start=\"1423\" data-end=\"1426\" \/>o<br data-start=\"1427\" data-end=\"1430\" \/><em data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1478\">\u00abuna gata montesa,<br data-start=\"1449\" data-end=\"1452\" \/>sobrina de un gato pardo\u00bb<\/em>.<br data-start=\"1479\" data-end=\"1482\" \/>La historia es la misma, pero el decorado cambia, y a nadie se le ocurre corregirlo. En la tradici\u00f3n oral no hay erratas: hay variantes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1620\" data-end=\"2286\">Y la ca\u00edda, que es el gran momento dram\u00e1tico del romance, tambi\u00e9n se personaliza seg\u00fan el lugar y la imaginaci\u00f3n del transmisor. En algunas versiones el gato se cae simplemente de la emoci\u00f3n al recibir la noticia de la boda:<br data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"1847\" \/><em data-start=\"1847\" data-end=\"1896\">\u00abAl o\u00edr esta noticia<br data-start=\"1868\" data-end=\"1871\" \/>se ha ca\u00eddo del tejado\u2026\u00bb<\/em><br data-start=\"1896\" data-end=\"1899\" \/>En otras, la desgracia llega cuando decide ir a ver a la prometida:<br data-start=\"1966\" data-end=\"1969\" \/><em data-start=\"1969\" data-end=\"2020\">\u00abUn d\u00eda por ir a verla<br data-start=\"1992\" data-end=\"1995\" \/>se ha ca\u00eddo del tejado\u2026\u00bb<\/em><br data-start=\"2020\" data-end=\"2023\" \/>Y no faltan las variantes m\u00e1s teatrales, donde la ca\u00edda se precipita por un beso o un exceso de entusiasmo amoroso. Sea por alegr\u00eda, por prisa o por arrebato, el resultado es siempre el mismo: el gato acaba en el suelo\u2026 y el romance, en manos del ingenio popular.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2288\" data-end=\"2830\">Pero Don Gato no cambia solo de palabras: <strong data-start=\"2330\" data-end=\"2358\">tambi\u00e9n cambia de m\u00fasica<\/strong>. Aqu\u00ed conviene distinguir dos realidades. Por un lado, las <em data-start=\"2418\" data-end=\"2439\">variantes musicales<\/em>: la misma melod\u00eda b\u00e1sica con peque\u00f1os retoques de tonalidad, ritmo o fraseo. Por otro, las <em data-start=\"2531\" data-end=\"2552\">versiones musicales<\/em>: melod\u00edas distintas para un texto muy parecido. Dicho de forma sencilla: Don Gato puede sonar como la canci\u00f3n infantil \u201cde toda la vida\u201d\u2026 o convertirse en otra cosa muy distinta seg\u00fan qui\u00e9n lo cante y d\u00f3nde. En la m\u00fasica tradicional, el retoque no es una traici\u00f3n: es la norma.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2832\" data-end=\"3643\">Este fen\u00f3meno se observa con claridad en Castilla-La Mancha, territorio hist\u00f3ricamente de paso y de mezcla cultural. Los cancioneros de la regi\u00f3n recogen textos y melod\u00edas diversas, y el <strong data-start=\"3019\" data-end=\"3060\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Cancionero Musical Manchego<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, de <strong data-start=\"3065\" data-end=\"3106\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Pedro Echevarr\u00eda Bravo<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, conserva ejemplos especialmente reveladores. En uno de ellos, Don Gato aparece con el arranque m\u00e1s reconocible \u2014<em data-start=\"3220\" data-end=\"3273\">\u00abEstaba el se\u00f1or don Gato, sentadito en su tejado\u2026\u00bb<\/em>\u2014 y una melod\u00eda cercana a la versi\u00f3n infantil est\u00e1ndar, clara y en tono mayor. En cambio, otra versi\u00f3n recogida en el mismo cancionero comienza con <em data-start=\"3421\" data-end=\"3475\">\u00abEstando el gatito pardo sentadito en silla de oro\u2026\u00bb<\/em> y se canta con una melod\u00eda en tonalidad menor, de car\u00e1cter mucho m\u00e1s serio y melanc\u00f3lico. El texto es m\u00ednimo, pero el cambio musical transforma por completo la escena.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3645\" data-end=\"3949\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Y ah\u00ed est\u00e1 la clave. <strong data-start=\"3666\" data-end=\"3718\">El se\u00f1or don Gato no tiene una versi\u00f3n aut\u00e9ntica<\/strong>. Tiene muchas. Cada pueblo lo cant\u00f3 como quiso y, al hacerlo, lo mantuvo vivo.
